Veterans Day is distinct from Memorial Day, a U.S. public holiday in May: Veterans Day commemorates the service of all U.S. veterans, while the older Memorial Day, which grew out of Civil War commemorations, specifically honors those who have died while in military service.[5] Another military holiday that also occurs in May, Armed Forces Day, honors those currently serving in the U.S. military. Additionally, Women Veterans Day is recognized by a growing number of U.S. states that specifically honor women who have served in the U.S. military.
STEM/STEAM Day Nov. 8
National STEM/STEAM Day falls on November 8. There’s no way around it: children are significantly better off with strong science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics skills. That’s why STEM and STEAM education programs are so important. It’s undebatable that these subjects push society forward, and these programs help to find fun and engaging ways to teach them to students, which is all worth commemorating. So, on November 8, we celebrate STEAM/STEAM Day!
To celebrate this day, support the education of students pursing STEM subjects by learning about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics scholarships offered by institutes around the world. Thank you Mr. Payne for being Lackland Elementary's super STEAM teacher!
National School Psychology Week
During the week of November 3-7, the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and schools across the United States will celebrate the 2025 National School Psychology Week (NSPW). This week celebrates the contributions of school psychologists and the important role they play in schools and communities. NSPW is an annual opportunity to recognize school psychologists' work to help children thrive in school, at home, and in life. This year's theme, "Finding Your Path," reflects the ways that school psychologists help students, families, and school communities set and achieve their goals. Join us by taking this week to chart your course to explore how each person can celebrate the work of school psychologists and learn how school psychologists make a difference every day. Thank you to the team at Lackland ISD!
Around the District
As we approach Veterans Day, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to the veterans who are part of our Stacey school community.
Thank you to Dr. Roper, Ms. A Parham, Ms. Henderson, Mr. Concha, Mrs. Maestas, Mr. Payne, Mr. Shumway, Mrs. Hassenplug, Mr. Saeed, Coach Brown, Mr. Ambrozniak, Mr. Galbadores, Mr. Reliford and Ms. Koscinski, for your service, sacrifice, and dedication to our country.
We are honored to have you on our campus.
If you see any of our veterans around school today—or any day—please take a moment to thank them for their service.
A simple “thank you” can go a long way in showing appreciation.
Thank you, veterans, for all you have done and continue to do.

Family Engagement
Lackland ISD strongly desires parent engagement. You have an opportunity to share your voice and help us actualize our vision to ignite a passion for life-long learning and empower excellence. As you engage as a parent, we also invite your participation in campus and district-level committees. Below are the descriptions for these committees for your consideration. If you have additional questions, each committee’s point of contact is listed with the committee description.
Please read each description and share your interest in supporting the committee or learning more about it.
Lackland ISD continues to strive toward improving communication.
ParentSquare is a communication platform. Through the platform, you’ll be able to:
*Receive all district, school, and classroom communication via email, text, or app
*View the school and classroom calendar and RSVP for events
*Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items
*Securely receive important documents like report cards and other student documents
For the best ParentSquare experience, we recommend that you download and install the app. The name is ParentSquare, and it can easily be found in your device’s app store. If you don’t have a device, no need to worry: the platform is capable of both text and email, and you can log on via the web as well. ParentSquare receives its contact information from the Ascender Parent Portal. Please take a moment to make sure that you have the latest contact information on file there.
Parent Square Notifications
Under General Announcements, you can select how often you want to receive notifications for posts. Select Off, Instant or Digest notifications.
Off:no notifications about posts will be sent to you. Emergency Alerts and Notices will still be sent. School Alerts will still be sent if turned on.
Instant:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification every time a notice or message is sent.
Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.
The default setting is typically Digest, so that you receive all notices and post messages in one convenient notification once a day. All emergency notifications still come through instantly, and a school can override settings as needed for an urgent message.

SA Best Robotics Competition
This past Saturday and Sunday, the Stacey HS robotics team, Bots in Blue, competed in the SA BEST Regional competition at St Mary's University. Our little 2A school competed head-to-head with Brennan, Canyon, Madison, John Jay Science and Engineering, Wagner, and O'Connor high schools and was able to beat all of those schools. The Bots in Blue Won the UIL 2A Regional Championship and is ranked in the top 5 BEST 2A teams in Texas. They will be competing at the UIL State Championships at the State Fairgrounds in Dallas, December 10th-13th. If you see any of the students, please congratulate them on an outstanding performance against the top teams in the Region. Thank you to all the families and friends (including a few Stacey Robotics alumni and our very own Mrs. Norman) for coming out to support the team and provide some school spirit with the coaches, Mr. Kinsey, Mrs. Huerta, and Mr. Bramlett.

As he neared the finish line, he dug in and pushed through the pack. After passing a few runners, Jarred finished in 35th place with a time of 17:54, which was a personal record and improvement of over one minute from last year’s race at State. Library Scoop
It was a lot of fun to deliver certificates to our student winners for the Storybook Pumpkins! We had 149 wonderful creations, and 20 students earned a gift certificate for the next Literati Book Fair. 😊
It took some time to count all the ballots and to determine our winners! We decided to increase the number of winners in two ways. First, we are recognizing the top 5 vote getters. Secondly, we added four additional categories to our prizes to award more creative students with a gift certificate. We are so pleased with the efforts that everyone made!
We read a book about a scarecrow showing kindness. Students enjoyed making scarecrows from torn paper afterwards and discovered two awesome illustrators and the magic of a story written in prose. Happy reading Eagles!

November is here — a time for gratitude, reflection, and maybe even a little sweater weather (if Texas decides to cooperate)! As we move into the heart of the semester, here are a few things to keep in mind:
✨ Mid-Semester Check-In
We’re just past the halfway mark of the semester! Parent-Teacher Conferences this month are a great opportunity to check in on how your child is doing — not just academically, but socially and emotionally, too. These conversations can help ensure your gifted learner continues to feel challenged, supported, and inspired.
🍁 Seasonal Family Fun
November is perfect for slowing down and enjoying meaningful family moments — baking together, exploring local history, volunteering, or even starting a gratitude journal as a family. These simple experiences can spark curiosity, empathy, and deep thinking in your child.
💡 GT Referral Reminder
The Gifted and Talented referral window is still open through the end of November! If you think your child may benefit from GT services, please complete the referral form below:
Wishing you a warm, reflective, and joy-filled November full of learning and gratitude!
The Fix-It Challenge
Identify a small problem at home
(something inefficient, annoying, or
messy). Brainstorm and test a solution
using only items in your house.
Tip: Encourage learners to take risks and
try unexpected ideas to find a solution.
Clarity
Gifted learners often excel in academics, but giftedness goes beyond grades and test scores. It includes how they think, feel, and perceive the world. These children often process information quickly, make complex connections, and ask thought-provoking questions. Recognizing these traits at home can help you support their curiosity, even if it doesn’t always show up as straight A’s.
