They work while we sleep. Sometimes we walk around them in the halls not always “seeing” them or their work as important. That’s why we love this day, National Custodian Day, which rolls around every October 2. It recognizes the hard work that it takes to keep our public facilities in tip-top shape as well as the people who dilligently work, often at low wages, to make sure we have schools and workplaces that are spotless and sanitary.
Custodians are our first line of defense of the war on germs and often, it’s a thankless task. So, on National Custodian Day, show your appreciation to the custodians who clean the office buildings or schools that you frequent. As far we’re concerned, custodians are the hardest-working people in any organization. Thank you to our amazing team at Lackland ISD!

World Teachers’ Day on October 5th honors teachers and teacher organizations making vital contributions to the education and development of our future leaders.
If you think back to your school years, you are bound to think of at least one teacher who made a difference in your life. Maybe they helped set you on the right career path. One may have encouraged you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Or maybe they helped you when you felt unaccepted by your peers. Even though a teacher’s job is to teach, they wear many hats. They are also counselors and friends. To some students, they may even be guardian angels.
While teaching is indeed a noble career, it is a challenging one, as well. It seems that more than ever, teachers are having a difficult time. Some of the things they contend within the classroom each day are disruptive environments, lack of resources, and limited time. For teachers who have many students, it can be difficult to provide individualized attention.
As teachers prepare students for the future, it’s more important than ever to recognize the difficult job they do.
The LISD Administration provided baked potatoes, salad, and cookies to all staff in recognition of World Teachers Day. Thank you!

National Coaches Day on October 6 honors the men and women who inspire us to work harder and do our best.
Across the country in every community, a coach organizes teams, plans practices and training, motivates players to strive to be the best they can be. At the same time, coaches pinpoint areas for improvement and supply guidance. Every sport or competition requires a leader. More importantly, a leader who knows the game and drives athletes to work together as a team.
Many coaches maintain a schedule for training, conditioning, and preparing athletes. Not only do they create these schedules for competition but also for their best health. Injuries sideline athletes and upset team dynamics. Although a coach's final goal is winning, they do so through a wealth of knowledge. Coaches work to build teams that bond well, too. They develop work ethics and set standards for their athletes that many carry with them throughout their lifetime. For many athletes, coaches teach them to focus and how to reach a goal - which sometimes is not about winning. Sometimes the achievement is an improvement, playing by the rules or learning respect for others, themselves, or the game. Coaches represent leadership, mentors, and inspiration. Often, a coach's words will echo through an athlete's mind for years to come. During difficult times, the words motivate them forward. Rarely do these coaches even know the impact they've had on an athlete until many decades pass. And athletes aren't the only people who benefit from coaches. In an academic setting, coaches lead individuals and teams in speech, chess, drama, and many other types of competition.

Lackland ISD continues to strive toward improving communication.
ParentSquare is a communication platform. Through the platform, you’ll be able to:
*Receive all district, school, and classroom communication via email, text, or app
*View the school and classroom calendar and RSVP for events
*Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items
*Securely receive important documents like report cards and other student documents
For the best ParentSquare experience, we recommend that you download and install the app. The name is ParentSquare, and it can easily be found in your device’s app store. If you don’t have a device, no need to worry: the platform is capable of both text and email, and you can log on via the web as well. ParentSquare receives its contact information from the Ascender Parent Portal. Please take a moment to make sure that you have the latest contact information on file there.
Parent Square Notifications
Under General Announcements, you can select how often you want to receive notifications for posts. Select Off, Instant or Digest notifications.
Off:no notifications about posts will be sent to you. Emergency Alerts and Notices will still be sent. School Alerts will still be sent if turned on.
Instant:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification every time a notice or message is sent.
Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.
The default setting is typically Digest, so that you receive all notices and post messages in one convenient notification once a day. All emergency notifications still come through instantly, and a school can override settings as needed for an urgent message.

Our fall Literati Book Fair has been a big hit! Students, parents, and teachers have found awesome books to read and explore! We have enjoyed two Family Nights with our students and their families coming in to shop. Mrs. Leija and our teachers found terrific titles to add to their book collections, too. We are so thankful for the support of our parents and families with this Book Fair, and we will look forward to the spring Book Fair down the road...
Students used their imaginations and marvelous manipulatives to build a playground or a house for Pig the Pug after shopping the Book Fair. We have many engineers and designers in the making. Big fun!
The fall Book Fair will close at the end of the school day on Friday, and the on-line Book Fair will also wrap up at the close of business. Happy reading!😊

Greetings to our GT Community!
Fall has officially arrived, even if the weather hasn't quite gotten the message! This is the perfect time in the semester to consider a couple of things:
Mid-Semester Check-In: We are just shy of the halfway mark for the first semester. It’s a good time to assess how things are going academically and socially for your child. The Parent /Teacher conference coming this month is a great tool for starting this conversation.
Fall Activities: October is ripe with opportunities for family activities—think pumpkin patches, apple picking, and fall festivals. These outings can be a great way to make memories and offer a fun break from the usual routine.
