Speech Pathology Week 8/25-31

The theme, ‘Impact Through Communication’, highlights the different ways speech pathology can support and strengthen communication across our community. Speech pathology, also known as speech-language pathology or speech therapy, is a healthcare and academic discipline that aims to treat and assist with communication disorders and disabilities. This can include:
Expressive and mixed receptive-expressive language disorders
  • Voice disorders
  • Speech sound disorders
  • Speech disfluency
  • Pragmatic language impariments
  • Social communication difficulties
  • Swallowing disorders
It’s practiced by professionals called speech pathologists. They work with people of all ages and all walks of life who have communication or swallowing difficulties. They also play a vital role in the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

Thank you Lackland ISD Speech Pathologists Cynthia Martinez and Dawn Bluhm!

Safe Storage of Firearms

The content below is shared as a required notification per HB 121 which requires the Texas School Safety Center, in collaboration with the Department of Public Safety, to provide information abut safe storage of firearms, including ways parents can effectively prevent children from accessing firearms. Districts are required to provide this information to parents of all enrolled students at least three times each school year.

A firearm should be stored unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored elsewhere.
It is unlawful to store, transport, or abandon an unsecured firearm in a place where children are likely to be and can obtain access to the firearm. Under the Penal Code, a person commits the offense of making a firearm accessible to a child if the child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm, and the person with criminal negligence:
·      Failed to secure the firearm; or
·      Left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access
The penalty for allowing a child access to a firearm can range from a Class C misdemeanor (punishable by a $500 fine) to a Class A misdemeanor (punishable by a $4000 fine, a year in jail, or a combination of the two).

ParentSquare

Lackland ISD continues to strive toward improving communication.

ParentSquare is a communication platform. Through the platform, you’ll be able to:

*Receive all district, school, and classroom communication via email, text, or app
*View the school and classroom calendar and RSVP for events
*Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items
*Securely receive important documents like report cards and other student documents

For the best ParentSquare experience, we recommend that you download and install the app. The name is ParentSquare, and it can easily be found in your device’s app store. If you don’t have a device, no need to worry: the platform is capable of both text and email, and you can log on via the web as well. ParentSquare receives its contact information from the Ascender Parent Portal. Please take a moment to make sure that you have the latest contact information on file there.
Parent Square Notifications

Under General Announcements, you can select how often you want to receive notifications for posts. Select Off, Instant or Digest notifications.

Off:no notifications about posts will be sent to you. Emergency Alerts and Notices will still be sent. School Alerts will still be sent if turned on.
Instant:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification every time a notice or message is sent.
Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.

The default setting is typically Digest, so that you receive all notices and post messages in one convenient notification once a day. All emergency notifications still come through instantly, and a school can override settings as needed for an urgent message.

Library Scoop

Our awesome PreKinder and Kindergarten students started their specials rotations this week and they were wonderful in the library! Students practiced writing and making the sound for the letter "m" after reading about a little mouse at school. Our great teachers are hard at work each day guiding our learners!
